Lenore's Lament | Ace Lee

In shadows deep where moonlight wanes,

Where whispers of the night remain,

There lies a tale of love's cruel chains,

A haunting echo of pleasure and pain.

In a chamber draped in velvet black,

Where shadows dance and spectres track,

Two souls entwined in fate’s cruel wrack,

Their love, a fever, with no way back.

Lenore, my raven-haired desire,

Her eyes, twin stars of burning fire,

In her embrace, I found my pyre,

A tempest’s kiss, a darkened choir.

Her lips, like wine, did quench my thirst,

Yet in her touch, I was accursed,

For every kiss, a pang, a burst,

Of sorrow’s song, a love reversed.

In our secret lair, we met in night,

Our passions flared, our hearts alight,

Yet shadows lingered, dimming the light,

A tragic dance in the absence of sight.

In the throes of love, her whispered name,

A symphony of pleasure and of shame,

For in our ecstasy, there burned a flame,

A spectral hand that none could tame.

One fateful eve, beneath the moon’s cold gaze,

Our love did peak in fiery blaze,

Yet as dawn approached, in sorrow’s haze,

Lenore did fade into the maze.

Her final breath, a ghostly sigh,

A silken thread in the night’s dark sky,

In my arms, she did quietly die,

Leaving me alone to question why.

Now in this chamber, cold and drear,

Her absence echoes, ever near,

A love once bright now drowned in fear,

Her spectre's touch, a haunting sear.

In midnight’s grasp, I call her name,

A lover’s cry, devoid of blame,

Yet silence answers, ever the same,

A testament to love’s cruel game.

Oh, Lenore, my heart’s delight,

In death’s cold grip, you took flight,

Leaving me in endless night,

A shadow’s kiss, a phantom’s blight.

In this cursed room, I dwell alone,

With memories carved in silent stone,

A love once lived, now sorrow’s throne,

In Poe’s lament, my soul is thrown.

For in the darkness, love does bleed,

A tortured heart, a desperate need,

In sorrow’s cloak, my soul is freed,

Yet bound to love, in night’s cruel creed.

More about The Poem...

"Lenore's Lament," a poignant tribute to love and grief, draws inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's eerie writing style. The tremendous desire and profound anguish of two lovers enslaved by fate are explored in this poetry. Both the joy of their union and the anguish of their impending parting are captured.

The story takes place in a dimly lit room with the protagonist by himself and Lenore's memory haunting him. The bittersweet conclusion and the reminders of their love provide a striking contrast that illustrates the complexity of human emotions.

Though not part of any collection or featured in awards, "Lenore's Lament" pays tribute to timeless themes of love and loss. I hope to connect with readers who have felt the bittersweet agony of deep love and the haunting silence of its absence.
