Poetry Workshops

At New Poet's Society, we are passionate about nurturing young talent and providing a supportive platform for budding writers to express themselves through poetry. Our poetry workshops offer a unique opportunity for poets aged 13-25 to come together, learn, and grow in a creative environment.

What to Expect

We currently run online workshops that are either live through a video call such as using Zoom or MS Teams. Using the technology provided, we run very community and collaborative based workshops where everybody can get involved in growing their creative mind and portfolio. Plus, our pre-made video workshops can allow anyone to look back on past activities and methods we've used to improve your writing, unleash your creativity and show you that anybody can write!

Activities involve:

  • Understanding the platform and audience for Poetry in today's society.
  • Finding the best methods for writing poetry and how to gain the motivation necessary to build a portfolio.
  • Realising that poetry doesn't need to have a specific criteria. It can be personal, factual or something never seen before.
  • Looking back at successful and unsuccessful poetry, the differences, and what works and why.
  • Finding your own personal writing style, what works best for you and what you enjoy the most about writing.

These sessions are inclusive and aid our users to build their own creative network with others so we can build awareness around sharing poetry between each other, peer progression and motivating each other!

Eligibility Criteria

We don't expect any sort of formality or professionalism within these sessions as we want them to be casual, fun and a fair learning environment for everyone! However, we do have some rules regarding our sessions that should be expected to follow so we can run these sessions without any problems. These include:

  • Respecting the voice of each participant within the workshops.
  • You shouldn't participate in any activity or behaviour that goes against the Terms and Conditions according to whichever video platform we are using at the time. For more information, visit the following websites to familiarise yourself with these conditions:

Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Teams (free) Online Subscription Agreement - Microsoft Support

Zoom: Zoom Terms of Service | Zoom

  • Show common decency within these video calls. Any inappropriate behaviour will result in you being blacklisted from our services.

Poetry Submissions

Do you have a poem you'd like to share with the world? Our workshops provide a platform for young poets to submit their work for publication on our website. This is a great opportunity to showcase your talent and connect with a wider audience.
