Symphony of Diversity | Bindu Unnikrishnan

If colours could speak, they'd tell us a tale:

Not just the blue, nor the red in detail,

Not the warm orange or the gentle brown hue,

But when blended together, pure white does ensue.

It crafts the grand arch where the rainbow takes flight,

Alone, they're but hues, together, they're bright.

All colours united paint the sky's crest,

A rainbow glowing, brilliantly dressed.

If one organ claimed might, how could harmony be?

Each part, with the brain, works in unity.

If the heart breathed like lungs or skin took muscle’s stance,

Chaos would follow, disrupting the dance.

For perfect function needs roles in their place,

Distinct yet in sync, they maintain the grace.

Together they stand, the body they guide,

A symphony of organs, diverse yet allied.

In society's warp, diverse roles we see:

A plumber, a doctor, a teacher, one can be.

Each one a thread in the vast human weave,

Creating a world where we all can breathe and live.

Imagine a garden of one single shade,

How dull it would be, how quickly it would fade.

The richness of flowers, each unique in bloom,

Gives life to the garden, dispelling the gloom.

Individually bright, together we're strong,

Distinct as our irises, we all here ,belong!

United in difference, our world we create,

Diversity’s strength makes earth, our heaven so great!

More about the Poem...

Unnikrishnan gives us a beautifully written poetry here with a catchy and easy-to-read rhyme scheme as well as a platter of colour throughout. The idea of diversity being told through metaphors and motifs of light and colour resembles precisely what diversity is all about, celebration. Plus, adding the rich images of nature compared to the dullness creeping in creates a sense of fight and having to unite to gain the diversity we need as humans.

A delightful, easy to comprehend kinda poem. The essentials like unity in diversity, dignity of labour, and teamwork, which are the need of the hour, can be very well understood even at the school level.
Look forward to reading more such gems coming out of your invaluable 'pitara'!
