Remember The Fallen | Marie Stell

My kit is packed,

I’m on my way,

It’s time to act

Without delay.

With courage and honour,

For country and King

I’ll be brave, stand my ground

And for morale I will sing.

The waiting, the noise,

The silence, then call,

Watching my friends

One by one as they fall.

The cries and the sights,

The rats and the stench,

I fear more and more

I will die in this trench.

And then, only silence,

The guns are no more,

Exhausted I weep

As I sink to the floor.

So please wear a poppy

And wear it with pride,

Remember the fallen,

It’s for us that they died.
