The day had been a blur,
I couldn’t remember it at all,
Yet suddenly it was night time
And I was standing in the hall.
Hushed voices in the kitchen,
Someone sobbing on the phone,
I walked into the living room,
Mum was crying there, alone.
My brother walked straight past me
And gave our mum a hug,
Why did he ignore me?
Treating me like a mug!
I was then stood in the school yard,
The sun pierced through a cloud,
It was then I heard somebody shout
“He’s got a knife!” dead loud.
I turned to run, take cover,
I saw a crowd but heard no sound,
I ran and pushed between them,
A lad was bleeding on the ground.
I couldn’t see the face
Of the lad who had been hurt,
I realised then that something wet
Was seeping through my shirt.
A voice spoke out from in the crowd
“He wouldn’t drop the knife!”
“He said it’s for protection
But in the end it took his life.”
I stagger backwards from the crowd
Blood pooling at my feet,
My thoughts they are no more
As my heart gives it’s final beat.
A knife is not protection,
Kids need to learn this from the start,
It’s a deadly, evil weapon
And will break a family’s heart.
