How Do You Love A Wild One? | Rebecca Kolodziej

How do you love a wild one?

With a mind as sharp as broken glass,

Don't ask why she's like this,

You already told her before that she belongs with the trash,

But don't feel sorry for this wild one,

She has learnt to lick her own wounds,

And heal.

Her heart maybe broken but her wit is feral,

And her rage? Yes, she has struggled to conceal,

But here's the deal -

In order to love a wild one you must

Be willing to try and tame her

Don't forsake her, or try to break her

Don't poke at her until she squeels

She's not afraid to fight

And the animal in her loves to bite

To love a wild one is to love a free woman

Courageous and absolute.

More about The Poem...

Kolodziej comments, 'How Do You Love A Wild One is representation of a woman who has endured alot of hardships in her life and who has learned to put up barriers as a way of protecting herself when it comes to opening her heart to love. The poem explores emotions such as being afraid to be accepted by someone who they love because they are 'wild' in nature or 'fierce' or even 'afraid' The nature of the poem discusses the fear of letting walls down and being seen for who they are even though at times they can be wild.'

"How Do You Love a Wild One?" is a poignant and evocative poem exploring the complexities of loving a fierce, independent woman. The poem paints a vivid picture of a woman with a sharp mind and a resilient spirit, shaped by past hurts and rejection. It acknowledges her ability to self-heal and her refusal to be diminished. Her broken heart contrasts with her untamed wit and concealed rage. The poem advises that to truly love such a wild spirit, one must embrace her untamed nature without attempting to control or subdue her. Ultimately, it celebrates her courage and absolute freedom, urging a love that respects and cherishes her wild essence.
