I Don't Know | Diane C. Howard

I was stumped the other day

By a question in my DMs

It was a simple question

Asking me what do I want in men

I looked back at the question

Several times that day

I didn't have an answer

I didn't know what to say

In my younger years

I would have been specific

Cute muscles funny and

A personality that came with it

But as the years went by

None of that meant jack

I can't think of one of those men

That I would want coming back

As a mature woman

My wants are not the same

I'd be happy with a man

Who's not into running game

Someone who realizes

Just how precious my time is

Someone who respects mine

Because I will respect his

Someone who knows how to relax

Not always on the go

Prefer someone with adult kids

With their own lives you know

A man who is mature

But still has a little fire

There you go the man I want

The Man that I desire

As for the guy that asked the question

I did not respond

I ended up just blocking him

A decision of which I'm not fond

More about The Poem...

Howard comments, 'I have been writing since I was 11, at 17 I experienced a writers' block that caused me to be unable to write until about a month ago' and here it is.

Howard's casual, colloquial style of writing doesn't just cross the normal bounds of poetry, but it invites the reader into a casual conversation with this speaker. The easy-to-read language and some quite funny lines makes this an enjoyable read, and different from the rest.
