My man tastes like lemon sugar,
He’s sweet like candy but he makes me cry,
Mama told me that this love would sour,
But I never understood why -
Now I’m sitting all alone staring at the sea,
My mind is a wandering back to him,
He kisses me on the lips as I watch him leave,
It was bittersweet.
Maybe I'm crazy but I love the way you leave me,
I’m all alone in pandemonium and I don’t seem to mind,
cause I got my bottle by my side lifting my spirit up high,
I’ll drink until I'm done,
Being alone can be fun,
Or maybe, I'm the broken one.
My man used to love me,
Even when I was wrong,
He’d love me hard with his rugged touch,
Together we were strong,
But now his emptiness has turned him cold,
And he’s left a hole where there was once my soul,
Maybe I'm crazy but I love the way you leave me.
I’m all alone in pandemonium and I don’t seem to mind.
And from time to time I wonder if your kisses
Still taste the same.
My lemon sugar man made me a pawn in his game,
It's such a shame that I was happy to play the part,
But no matter how sweet he made me,
He still broke my heart.
And I still crave him.
And I really don’t want to.
I really don't want too.
I really don't want too.
But I'm strung out on lemon sugar.
More about The Poem...
Kolodziej quotes 'Lemon Sugar is about a bittersweet love that turned toxic very quickly.' The captivating rhyme within the poem that almost makes you feel intoxicated clearly gives the realistic portrayal of how these sorts of relationships can end up. Kolodziej's first person perspective throughout this poem argues the personal connection the poet may have to the speaker, and perhaps, allows the reader to also relate to the speaker in the events that unfold.
If you want heartbreak poetry with a tangy twist, this is it.
