My Mortal Self | Thomas Pender

Published on 6 March 2024 at 17:17

My mortal flesh gets weak at times.

This righteous soul could never die.

Mortal thoughts of love dismay.

A soul connection. The truest way.

Flow as water. The breeze may blow.

Blasphemed words. The ego woes.

Destined to a life of pain.

Through thoughts of struggle. Creations made.

Merciful one from high above.

The only true feeling. Agape love.

Our mortal wounds. Heal they must.

Look within. Your heart to touch.

Heal your flesh and heal your heart.

Your soul will heal its broken parts.

I laugh at times. The jester comes.

Motion heals. Thy weary bones.

Soles on earth meet souls in sky.

Knowledge heals the restless mind.

This poem explores the contrast between mortal limitations and the enduring strength of the soul, emphasizing the power of true love and inner healing. Here's a brief description:

The poem begins by acknowledging the weakness of the mortal body but asserts the immortality of the soul. It reflects on the disheartening nature of mortal love compared to the profound connection of a soul bond. The imagery of flowing water and blowing breeze symbolizes the natural ebb and flow of life, while blasphemed words and ego represent the struggles and pains encountered. Despite a destiny seemingly filled with pain and struggle, creation and growth emerge from these challenges. The merciful presence from above offers agape love, the highest form of love, guiding the healing process. The poem encourages looking within oneself to heal both flesh and heart, leading to the soul's restoration. The speaker finds humour in life’s trials, with motion as a remedy for physical weariness. The convergence of earthly and spiritual realms, where earthly soles meet celestial souls, signifies the healing power of knowledge and the tranquillity it brings to the restless mind.
